Under emergency circumstances, time is critical, and being able to quickly identify your medical condition is of extreme importance. If you or your loved one were to go into shunt failure<\/a> or ETV failure<\/a> and are unable to communicate, medical IDs can provide rapid identification for emergency responders and medical personnel. Without proper identification, common symptoms, such as headaches<\/a>, dizziness, sleepiness, and vomiting can be misdiagnosed and appropriate care could be jeopardized or delayed.<\/p>\n

Accessing your Medical Alert ID Through your Phone\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n

Your phone is typically your first point of communication, so it\u2019s of importance to have your medical condition saved on your device in case of emergencies. In a situation where you are unresponsive, first responders can use your phone to access your Medical Alert ID through your locked screen. It\u2019s crucial to have your medical information ready on your device if you don\u2019t have another type of Medical ID.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Here are the steps to entering your medical information on both iPhone and Android:<\/span><\/p>\n

Android Phone<\/b><\/p>\n

  1. First, swipe your phone to access your authentication screen<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Select <\/span>Emergency Call<\/b><\/li>\n
  3. On the Emergency Call<\/span> screen, select the <\/span>Medical Info<\/b> icon in the lower left of the screen<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. On the Medical Info screen, you will see instructions on how to add your medical info<\/span>\n

    1. Go to <\/span>Contacts<\/b>, tap your profile at the top of the screen, then tap <\/span>Medical Info<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
    2. Enter the information you would like to show on your locked screen.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. Select <\/span>Save<\/b>. This will take you to a list of items you will be showing on your locked screen. Make sure that \u201c<\/span>Show on Lock Screen\u201d<\/b> is toggled <\/span>On<\/b><\/li>\n
    4. To view, select <\/span>Emergency Call<\/b> after swiping on your locked screen<\/span><\/li>\n
    5. On the Emergency Call<\/span> screen, select the <\/span>Medical Info<\/b> icon in the lower left of the screen. You will see the information you entered<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      1. First, set up a <\/span>Medical ID<\/b> in the Health app<\/span>\n

        1. Open Health app, tap on the Summary tab and then click on your Profile picture in the upper right corner<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
        2. Select <\/span>Medical ID<\/b><\/li>\n
        3. Select <\/span>Add<\/b><\/li>\n
        4. Enter the information you would like to show on your locked screen<\/span><\/li>\n
        5. Make sure that Enable Lock Screen Access <\/span>Show When Locked<\/b> is toggled <\/span>On<\/b><\/li>\n
        6. Make sure that Enable Emergency Sharing\u00a0 <\/span>Share During Emergency Call<\/b> is toggled <\/span>On<\/b><\/li>\n
        7. To Save, tap <\/span>Done<\/b><\/li>\n
        8. To view, select <\/span>Emergency <\/b>after swiping on your locked screen<\/span><\/li>\n
        9. On the Emergency screen, select the <\/span>Medical ID<\/b> icon in the lower left of the screen. You will see the information you entered<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
