{"id":177,"date":"2020-02-24T09:24:01","date_gmt":"2020-02-24T14:24:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hydroassoc.org\/?p=177"},"modified":"2025-11-20T16:51:33","modified_gmt":"2025-11-20T21:51:33","slug":"about-scholarship-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hydroassoc.org\/about-scholarship-funding\/","title":{"rendered":"About Scholarship Funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Association is grateful to the following donors who generously fund these scholarships:<\/p>\n<h4>Gerard Swartz Fudge Memorial Scholarship Fund, which is supported in part by Ellie Botti and Molly Mastrangelo<\/h4>\n<p>This fund was established in 1994 by the Fudge family in honor of their son Gerard, who lived with hydrocephalus. In 1992, at age 22 and in the midst of his college experience, Gerard died. Two scholarships are awarded each year from this fund.<\/p>\n<h4>Baldus Family Scholarship in Memory of Gerard Swartz Fudge<\/h4>\n<p>This fund was established in 2017 by Sally Baldus, the aunt of Gerard Swartz Fudge. Gerard lived with hydrocephalus and, in 1992, at age 22 and in the midst of his college experience, passed from complications of the condition. One scholarship is awarded each year from this fund.<\/p>\n<h4>Morris L. and Rebecca Ziskind Memorial Scholarship Fund<\/h4>\n<p>This fund was established in 2001 by Rebecca Ziskind and her family in memory of Rebecca\u2019s husband, Dr. Morris Ziskind. Dr. Ziskind had normal pressure hydrocephalus. After Rebecca Ziskind\u2019s death in 2005, the couple\u2019s three surviving children and their spouses\u2014Carrie and Dee Norton, Jerome and Rosemary Ziskind, and Janet and Charles Tarino\u2014graciously endowed this fund in loving memory of both parents. Two scholarships are awarded each year from this fund.<\/p>\n<h4>Anthony Abbene Scholarship Fund<\/h4>\n<p>This fund was established in 2002 by Anthony Abbene\u2019s extended family in honor of this teenager with hydrocephalus. Two scholarships are awarded each year from this fund to offset educational costs of a student with hydrocephalus.<\/p>\n<h4>Justin Scot Alston Memorial Scholarship Fund<\/h4>\n<p>Gloria M. Alston established this scholarship in loving memory of her son, Justin Scot Alston, who died in 2004. Justin received a Hydrocephalus Association scholarship in 2002 and will be remembered for his tremendous optimistic attitude and all that he accomplished during his short life.<\/p>\n<h4>Mario J. Tocco Hydrocephalus Foundation Scholarship Fund<\/h4>\n<p>Greg and Georgana Tocco along with their families established this scholarship in 2007 in loving memory of Greg\u2019s grandfather, Mario, and in honor of the Hydrocephalus Foundation, Inc. of Saugus, MA.<\/p>\n<h4>Kate Finlayson Memorial Scholarship<\/h4>\n<p>The Finlayson Family established this scholarship in 2017 in loving memory of their daughter, sister, and aunt, Kate, to honor the strength, determination, and resilience of all those living with the challenges of hydrocephalus. Kate, whose grace and compassion for others still inspires her family daily, passed from complications of hydrocephalus at age 26, while pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. One scholarship is awarded each year from this fund.<\/p>\n<h4>Jacobsen Family Scholarship<\/h4>\n<p>Established in 2021 to support the continuing education of students who continue to strive with determination and resilience while dealing with the daily impacts of hydrocephalus.<\/p>\n<h4>Logan Aamot Scholarship Fund<\/h4>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>Logan Aamot Scholarship Fund<\/strong>\u00a0was created by Kate Sigrist in loving memory of her son,\u00a0<strong>Logan George Aamot<\/strong>, who passed away unexpectedly on April 4, 2025, at the age of seventeen. Logan was diagnosed with hydrocephalus at five years old and faced seven brain surgeries, extensive rehabilitation, and countless medical challenges. Through it all, he showed extraordinary strength, resilience, and heart.<\/p>\n<p>Logan was a devoted brother to Hunter, Isla, and Harper, a loving son, and a gentle, compassionate young man. He cherished time with his siblings\u2014playing sports, making videos, baking cookies, and filling the house with laughter. Sports were a lifelong passion, and with his neurosurgeon\u2019s approval, Logan proudly played football from sixth grade through his junior year.<\/p>\n<p>Despite a shy demeanor, Logan was full of empathy, kindness, and quiet determination. He touched everyone who took the time to know him.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>Logan Aamot Scholarship Fund\u00a0<\/strong>was<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>established<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>to honor his courage and spirit. As Kate shared,\u00a0<em>\u201cWe want other kids with hydrocephalus to go on to college and succeed in life, and we\u2019d like to know he helped in just a small way.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0In truth, the impact of Logan\u2019s legacy\u2014and this scholarship\u2014will be anything but small. It will help support and uplift students living with hydrocephalus as they pursue their dreams, carrying forward the strength and love that defined Logan\u2019s life.<\/p>\n<h4>Hydrocephalus Association Scholarship<\/h4>\n<p>Erik and Lisa Chamberlain began providing support of this scholarship in 2015 in honor of their son, Myles Chamberlain. Born in 2011, Myles optimism, positive energy and determination touch us all on a daily basis. One scholarship is awarded from this scholarship.
