Tian, MD<\/p><\/div>\n<p>One way the <strong>Hydrocephalus Association<\/strong> promotes research and leadership in <strong>hydrocephalus<\/strong> is through our annual <strong>Resident\u2019s Prize<\/strong>. This prize is awarded each year to the most promising hydrocephalus-related research paper presented by a neurosurgical resident at the Pediatric Section meeting of the <strong>American Association of Neurological Surgeons\/Congress of Neurological Surgeons (AANS\/CNS)<\/strong>. The prize is designed to encourage young doctors to focus their research efforts on advancing the treatment and care of individuals with hydrocephalus.<\/p>\n<p>HA is pleased to announce the 2011 winner: <strong>Ashley G. Tian, MD<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong> Dr. Tian received the award for her paper <strong>\u2018Bilateral High-Grade Intraventricular Hemorrhage is Associated with Male Sex, Younger Gestational Age and Lower Birth Weight, But Not Other Perinatal Factors\u2019<\/strong>, which she presented at the recent Pediatric Section of the AANS\/CNS meeting in Austin, TX. We believe her paper will advance our understanding of\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 r hemorrhage and post-hemorrhagic hydrocephalus.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ashley G. Tian, MD<\/strong> was born and raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.\u00a0 She graduated from Franklin and Marshall College in 1998 with a BA in Biology.\u00a0 Following graduation, she worked in a <strong>traumatic brain injury research<\/strong> laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania, studying cellular reaction to stretch injuries.\u00a0 This research inspired her career in Neurosurgery.\u00a0 She attended the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine, where she received her MD in 2006 and then traveled west to become a resident in the Department of Neurosurgery at Stanford University.\u00a0 While on her Pediatric rotation, she began her project studying premature infants with intraventricular hemorrhage and post-hemorrhagic hydrocephalus.\u00a0 Dr. Tian plans to pursue a career in pediatrics and continue her work in <strong>hydrocephalus research<\/strong>.\u00a0 Her other academic interests include congenital malformations and brain tumors.\u00a0 In her free time, Dr. Tian enjoys traveling, cooking, growing orchids and spending time with her family.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"\/research-we-fund\/\" target=\"_blank\"
