One way the Hydrocephalus Association promotes research and leadership in hydrocephalus<\/a> is through our annual Resident\u2019s Prize.<\/a> This prize is awarded each year to the most promising \"Jasonhydrocephalus-related research paper presented by a neurosurgical resident at the Pediatric Section meeting of the. The prize is designed to encourage young doctors to focus their research efforts on advancing the treatment and care of individuals living with hydrocephalus.<\/p>\n

HA is pleased to announce the 2014 winner: Jason Blatt, MD. Dr. Blatt received the award for his paper, \u2018Incidence of Delayed Hydrocephalus Following In-Utero Myelomeningocele Repair,\u2019 which he presented at the 2014 Pediatric Section of the AANS\/CNS<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Dr. Blatt is a rising Chief Resident at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill<\/a>. He takes special interest in the research of fetal surgery for myelomeningocele as well as in the improvement of resident and medical student education. To that end, Dr. Blatt is a member of the University of North Carolina Academy of Educators<\/a> and has active projects in collaboration with the University of North Carolina Eye Bank Surgical Skills Laboratory <\/a>to improve surgical skills education through simulation. In his free time, Dr. Blatt enjoys the company of his wife Tasha, a PhD candidate in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of North Carolina, and his eight-month-old son David.<\/p>\n

In his research, Dr. Blatt explores the long-term rate of shunt placement for infants who undergo in-utero myelomeningocele repair in order to determine the efficacy and long-term benefits of the procedure.<\/p>\n
