The <strong>ependymal layer <\/strong>is the layer of cells that line the ventricles and separate the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from the brain.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-22589 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hydroassoc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Research-generic-image-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\">Last week, we highlighted a study linking changes in the <a href=\"\/new-views-on-postinfectious-hydrocephalus\/\">ependymal layer with the development of postinfectious hydrocephalus<\/a>. But, the ependymal layer has also been linked to the development of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hydroassoc.org\/new-theories-in-fetal-onset-hydrocephalus\/\">congenital hydrocephalus<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"\/new-theories-in-posthemorrhagic-hydrocephalus\/\">posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus<\/a> of prematurity.<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, the Hydrocephalus Association supported Dr. Michael Piper with a <a href=\"\/michael-piper-phd\/\">$50,000 Innovator Award<\/a>\u00a0to study how ependymal cells develop.
