Inspire through advocacy &amp; uniting communities across the nation and beyond.<\/h3>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><span id=\"m_9005709067120053583docs-internal-guid-6c5149db-7fff-05bb-9d1e-8820dde97b6c\">NPPACT\u00a0CONGRESSIONAL BRIEFING<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span id=\"m_9005709067120053583docs-internal-guid-b51a0ead-7fff-030a-6107-7cafff5fe459\"><span id=\"m_9005709067120053583docs-internal-guid-5c2ebf3b-7fff-115d-220c-11c5438d92af\"><span id=\"m_9005709067120053583docs-internal-guid-95d70e6a-7fff-0a3e-b155-b98ee7774413\"><span id=\"m_9005709067120053583docs-internal-guid-99fe76b4-7fff-86f9-4215-b03de7021f86\"><a href=\"https:\/\/httpS:\/\/hydroassoc.org\">The Hydrocephalus Association<\/a> (HA) recently partnered with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spinabifidaassociation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Spina Bifida Association<\/a> (SBA), <a href=\"https:\/\/arthritis.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arthritis Foundation<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/tourette.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tourette Association of America<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/nppact.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Partnership for Pediatric to Adult Care Transition<\/a> (NPPACT) to host a Capitol Hill Briefing centering on pediatric to adult healthcare transition.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>The speakers included:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Annie Kennedy<\/strong>: the Chief of Policy, Advocacy, and Patient Engagement at the <a href=\"https:\/\/everylifefoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EveryLife Foundation for Rare Diseases<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr. Erin Teeple<\/strong>:\u00a0Pediatric and Adult Colorectal surgeon and Director of the Colorectal Transition Program at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrensnational.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Children\u2019s National Hospital in Washington, D.C.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Domonique Robinson<\/strong>: <strong>Spina Bifida<\/strong> and <strong>Hydrocephalus<\/strong> Patient Advocate<\/p>\n<p>The event titled,<strong>\u00a0Healthcare Transition: A Care Cliff for Pediatric Onset Conditions<\/strong>,\u00a0brought in OVER 50 ATTENDEES. This is a direct result of the hard work of advocates like yourself. Thank you to each person who called and flagged this for their Representative\u2019s offices. The briefing is just the beginning of <strong>NPPACT\u2019s<\/strong> congressional advocacy. Representative Lieu has a long history of supporting effective healthcare initiatives.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Freshman Congresswoman Brittany Pettersen (CO-07) was the second member to join the Caucus. She is the second member of the Colorado delegation following Representative Caraveo&#8217;s (CO-08) addition last month.<\/p>\n<p>Congressman Don Bacon (NE-02) was the third member of the month to join the Caucus. Representing the Omaha Walk to End Hydrocephalus, he becomes the first member from the Nebraska delegation.<\/p>\n<p>This brings total membership to 31 MEMBERS! The continued Caucus growth is a direct result of courageous advocates spreading hydrocephalus awareness across the country. To join our efforts and help your members join the Caucus reach out to\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:advocacy@hydroassoc.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">advocacy@hydroassoc.org<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><span id=\"m_9005709067120053583docs-internal-guid-07dca36f-7fff-1dd6-c537-b8ea4f4ad0a4\">SIGN ON LETTERS\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Office of Caregiver Health Support Letter<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"m_9005709067120053583docs-internal-guid-49d7bcd4-7fff-fa78-43e9-2c73605b960e\"><span id=\"m_9005709067120053583docs-internal-guid-833d07be-7fff-cd46-8bdd-d17f72100b69\">The Hydrocephalus Association has joined over 160 organizations in singing onto a letter by our partners at the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers. The letter urges the White House to establish a federal Office of Caregiver Health within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The office would create collaboration across agencies to advance the health and wellbeing of caregivers including support, research, and education. As detailed in the letter, function of the office include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ensuring caregivers are understood and monitored as a population with their own needs.<\/li>\n<li>Ensuring that the needs of caregivers are considered in all federal programs and policies.<\/li>\n<li>Leveraging research and ensuring effective program evaluation and delivery across federal agencies to recommend policy and regulatory reforms to mitigate and prevent adverse outcomes from caregiving.<\/li>\n<li>Define caregivers and assess their needs, identify all existing programs and policies that may impact them and coordinate access to a streamlined system with a centralized<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>The office would provide much needed assistance to caregivers in the hydrocephalus community, of which are the backbone of our patient community. Supporting the health and mental wellbeing of caregivers is crucial for ensuring consistent and reliable care for hydrocephalus patients across the country.<\/div>\n<p>PRV Reauthorization\u00a0Letter of\u00a0Support<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"m_9005709067120053583docs-internal-guid-18bc8116-7fff-a8ff-afe6-b12a54be1eeb\"><span id=\"m_9005709067120053583docs-internal-guid-afeb52e4-7fff-6dce-3583-d3de9d158f68\">The Hydrocephalus Association has joined over 130 healthcare organizations in supporting a letter by the National Organization for Rare Disease (NORD) in support of the Rare Disease Pediatric Priority Review Voucher (PRV) program. The FDA program establishes incentives for pharmaceutical companies to invest in Rare Disease treatments that may not be commercially attractive. The priority review voucher can be used to expedite FDA review of drugs that affect rare disease.
