On June 11th, Bella Ferris and her mother, Gloria, had the privilege to attend the Children\u2019s Hospital Association Speak Now for Kids Family Advocacy Day in Washington, D.C. She represented patients at the UCLA Mattel Children\u2019s Hospital while meeting with congressional leaders and staff.<\/p>\n

“I had the incredible opportunity to advocate for children\u2019s healthcare, highlight the importance of protecting Medicaid, and share my personal story with lawmakers.<\/em><\/p>\n

From hallway conversations to official meetings, every moment with legislators was a chance to discuss the issues that matter: strengthening the pediatric workforce, mental health, research and innovation, and the future of kids\u2019 health care. Standing in the halls of Congress, I felt empowered knowing that my voice could contribute to important discussions about the future of healthcare for children across the country. It was both humbling and exciting to be part of a larger movement where young advocates with medical complexities, such as myself, can make an impactful difference.<\/em><\/p>\n

One of the highlights of my trip was meeting influential leaders such as Senator Adam Schiff, Congresswoman Laura Friedman, Julia Brownley, and Judy Chu. Speaking with them gave me a deeper understanding of the legislative process and the importance of personal stories in shaping our country. They listened with genuine interest, which reaffirmed my belief in the power of advocacy.<\/em><\/p>\n

This experience not only strengthened my passion for pushing for support for children\u2019s healthcare but also inspired me to continue using my voice to create positive change. My trip to Capitol Hill was more than just a visit; it was a transformative moment that I will carry with me as I continue my journey to become a lifelong advocate and use my voice to push for meaningful and lasting change for those who need it most.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
